# The console

## Banner

Once logged in, the top banner displays the SAM account name along with a menu for accessing preferences and logging out. The lower banner displays the area that you are currently in. It also may include the context in which you are currently editing settings.

![](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d1633279b84fb72f2fc46948a21ce3a96bc7fe25%2Fimage17.png?alt=media)

SAM has three context levels when editing application settings, as seen in the lower right corner above: Enterprise, Group, and Device. Each level affects a smaller number of phones and supersedes the level above. (See more info in the Applications section)

## Preferences

SAM’s *Preferences* page is accessed via the *ADMIN* gear at the upper right.

![](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f033fba9607fe7e115f98932f734371acd866090%2Fimage18.png?alt=media)

{% hint style="info" %}
**User level preferences**

Some preference settings are not visible in a read-only user login.
{% endhint %}

### Reset Password

For local administrator account SAM deployments, you may change the administrator password at any time. The AMIE banner displays the SAM username with a settings icon to its right. Clicking the settings icon opens a menu for Preferences and Logout. Select **Preferences**.

Reset Password is the second option. Click the **Reset Password** toggle and click **Save**. A message will appear explaining that after the next logon, you will be prompted to reset the password. Select **Logout** to exit SAM. Log back into SAM using the previous credentials. You will then be asked for a new password.

### Global Tree View Expanded

Configuration settings are collapsed in an outline-style structure. The Global Tree View Expanded option expands all these outlines so that every option is immediately displayed.

### Enable Auto Approval of Devices

A Preferences setting that allows the administrator to auto-approve new devices. It is disabled by default. Devices immediately go from the Pending List to the Device List when they heartbeat into SAM. This is handy when importing devices through .csv file upload or any other process where phones have been pre-approved by an administrator. When this setting is enabled the normal approval process will be disabled and if triggered will produce an error: “Auto approval is enabled. Devices listed here will be approved automatically during the next heartbeat.”

{% hint style="info" %}
**Read-only users will not see the auto approval option**

The Auto approve option is not visible to read-only users.
{% endhint %}

### Enable Bulk Delete at Device Level

This new feature makes it possible to delete *Device*-level settings from multiple devices at once. Enabling this feature will add a **Bulk Delete Device Level App Settings** button to the *About* page.

## Navigation Bar

The left navigation bar provides quick access to SAM’s features. Click the icon to go to the desired page. The navigation bar can be expanded by clicking the arrow to the right of the Spectralink logo, and collapsed by clicking it again.

**NEW: AMIE Advanced Analytics link**

SAM 1.15 adds links in the *AMIE Essentials* interface that take administrators directly to related insights in [AMIE Advanced](https://www.spectralink.com/amie-advanced-for-wi-fi/), Spectralink’s cloud analytics platform. *AMIE Advanced* is a separate product from *AMIE Essentials*. It runs in a web browser and shows how your device fleet is performing, with detailed views of battery, device, call, and network performance.

To use these links, an administrator must:

Have an *AMIE Advanced* account.

Be signed in to *AMIE Advanced* in their web browser.

Have an active *AMIE Advanced* license on that account. Licenses that have expired or haven’t started yet won’t work.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-essentials/using-the-platform/the-console.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
