# Welcome to AMIE Essentials

SAM (Spectralink Application Management), the primary tool for configuring and administering Spectralink smartphones, runs on a browser using a GUI interface. It provides an easy and intuitive way to configure and manage the deployment of an organization’s fleet of Versity phones.

SAM is part of the AMIE analytics system (Advanced Mobile Intelligence for Enterprises). AMIE enables administrators to keep track of real-time device metrics using the management console.

Deployed together, AMIE and SAM (along with several supporting Spectralink applications) provide a comprehensive solution for administering Spectralink mobile workforce devices with complete confidence and security.

An administrator can configure any Versity administrative settings in SAM. These settings can be configured at the Device level for a single device, at a Group level for a subset of devices or at an Enterprise level for every device deployed within a facility. These settings are picked up by all registered devices when they heartbeat into SAM.

Each device provides information as part of its heartbeat, allowing an administrator to check activity and usage information in SAM. More detailed information is gathered by Spectralink applications. This information is routed through the AMIE Agent and gathered in AMIE to provide complete real-time analytics.

## A Note about EMMs

AMIE does not replace an Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) system, nor does an EMM replace AMIE. Both have their place in the overall management of your mobile devices: AMIE provides intuitive and precise device tracking and management to help you get the most out of your Spectralink mobile investment, while an EMM provides an interface into your greater system infrastructure.

**App permissions (Android 13 phones only)**

Spectralink Versity 97 Series phones, and the 95/96 Series phones running Versity 3.0 or higher, run on Android 13, which handles permissions differently from Android 10.

Refer to the *App Permissions* section of the *Versity Applications Administration Guide* for a list of the permissions that must be granted for Versity software to run properly in Android 13.

If you’re not using an EMM but are administering Versity Android 13 phones, SAM provides a QR code you can scan with the phones to automatically set the required permissions. The *Versity DPC Initial Enrollment QR Code* can be found in the *About* section of SAM. See the *Versity Applications Administration Guide* for step-by-step instructions on how to set up Versity Android 13 phones using the QR code.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-essentials/introduction/welcome.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
