# VQO

Voice Quality Optimization (VQO) is primarily done automatically in the Versity phone, but some adjustments can be made through the VQO app.

### Wi-Fi Low RSSI Threshold

Voice quality can degrade if the Wi-Fi signal is too weak. The Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) will change as the user moves toward or away from the connected AP. The Wi-Fi Low RSSI threshold setting is the RSSI level at or below which the device seeks a better AP. The device uses many attributes of an AP to determine if it is a good candidate, including the current load on the AP, the available bandwidth on the AP, and the channel it’s using. Sometimes the best AP may have an RSSI value lower than other candidates.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Do not change the RSSI threshold value unless instructed to do so by Spectralink service personnel.
{% endhint %}

## Channel Selection

![](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-8610f0e474852dbc0a96738644059f9a149a3ffd%2Fimage179.png?alt=media)

### Wi-Fi Band Selection

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Make sure you have the correct channel selections!**

Wrong selection of channels could lead to phones being permanently disconnected from the network. If this happens, affected devices would need to be recovered manually, through restoring factory defaults. Contact Spectralink support if incorrect band selection disables your smartphones.
{% endhint %}

![](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5a00274c72309a07df1dd3c1c9c98acc961870a3%2Fimage180.png?alt=media)

#### Auto band selection

When Auto is Enabled, all bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) and all available Wi-Fi channels are enabled, and you cannot make Band or Channel selection.

When Auto is Disabled, you can select which band to enable and select specific channels within each band.

All bands are enabled by default, but channels can be disabled.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Phones will malfunction if all active channels are disabled!**

Disabling channels can result in the loss of network connectivity for each affected device, requiring them to be reset to factory defaults. Review the channels in use at the intended location before making changes.
{% endhint %}

## Wi-Fi Preferences

### About FT and CCKM

{% hint style="info" %}
**Regarding Android 8 phones and FT and CCKM settings**

Versity 95/96 series phones running Android 8 (1.x Versity releases) may experience a 5-10 second disconnect from Wi-Fi when FT and CCKM configuration settings are received from SAM (or an EMM). This disconnect will occur regardless of the setting values.

*Workaround:* Upgrade your phones to Android 10 (Versity 2.x).

If you cannot upgrade to Android 10, it is recommended that you avoid pushing these 2 settings unnecessarily, to minimize these disconnects.

Avoid using the *Re-apply Config* setting from the SAM device list, which will push all the settings to a device regardless of setting changes.

Instead use *Save Configuration* and *Send Configuration Now* in SAM, which will only send application settings that have changed.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Reboot required**

A reboot is required after making a change to VQO’s FT or CCKM settings.
{% endhint %}

Time-sensitive applications such as wireless Voice over IP (VoIP) can be supported by access points that use FT and CCKM technology. Both are enabled by default in the phone.

#### FT

Fast Basic Service Set Transition (FT) can be enabled on access points and, if used, should be enabled here. FT allows clients to roam between APs without taking the time to re-authenticate to each new AP.

#### CCKM

CCKM (Cisco Centralized Key Management) fast secure roaming can be enabled on access points and can also be enabled here.

CCKM uses a fast rekeying technique that enables Cisco client devices to roam from one access point to another typically in under 150 milliseconds (ms). CCKM fast secure roaming ensures that there is no perceptible delay in time-sensitive applications such as wireless Voice over IP (VoIP).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-essentials/applications/vqo.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
