# Logging

![](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b4a44ed15e573e3a2da75f8ac191fe04187211ed%2Fimage148.png?alt=media)

The Logging app lets you configure a syslog server for log captures. A syslog server provides valuable logging information about the smartphone’s operation. The Logging app also provides debugging tools under the Advanced Debugging tab.

Complete information about the options offered by SAM can be found in the *Versity Applications Administration Guide*, available online at the Spectralink support site (see Appendix A: Spectralink References). Only a brief summary is provided here.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**LTE phones (96 Series) should not use logging**

Logging requires a fair amount of data usage. When LTE phones are using data on the cellular network, they can easily exceed their limit. Therefore, disable logging on LTE phones while using an LTE data connection.

## Syslog

Syslog settings can be set at an Enterprise, Group, or Device level. Messages are buffered in the smartphone and can be retrieved through a USB download.

**For use by Spectralink support personnel only!**

When Enable Crash Dump USB Download Mode is allowed, instead of rebooting on certain types of (extremely rare) crashes the phone will become unresponsive while it holds its current state information to be retrieved by Spectralink personnel. Since the phone can become unresponsive, this setting should only be used by Spectralink personnel.

### Upload Server

The Upload Server is used for continuous uploads of logging files: bugreports, logcat, network captures, and qxdm.

Enter the upload server configuration parameters. If configured, bug reports will be uploaded to this location. If no server is configured, logs must be manually downloaded from the phone.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-essentials/applications/logging.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
