# Settings

The Settings screen is where your [Space](/amie-advanced/introduction/how-your-space-is-organized.md) is administered: its groups, users, licenses and enrollment IDs, and the Space's own configuration. To reach it, select **Settings** in the sidebar. It opens on the **Settings** tab; four more tabs sit beside it, each described on its own page.

## Why this screen matters

Everything you see elsewhere in the console is shaped here. The groups you create decide how handsets and users are organized; the users you add and the roles you give them decide who can see and do what; the enrollment IDs connect handsets; the licenses let those handsets report. If a colleague cannot see a handset, cannot press a button, or a new handset is not reporting, the answer is on one of these tabs.

## Before you start

Every role can open the Settings screen and its **Settings**, **Group Details** and **Groups** tabs. The **Users** and **Licenses** tabs load only for the **Admin** and **Owner** roles; for other roles an **Access Denied** dialog appears, over an empty **Licenses** tab or a **Users** tab reading **Failed to load users.** The controls that change anything are limited to those roles too — see [Roles and permissions](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/roles-and-permissions.md).

Only the **Group Details** tab follows the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) in the header. The other four tabs show the same thing whichever group is selected.

## Screen layout

The heading **Settings** sits above a row of five tabs: **Settings**, **Group Details**, **Groups**, **Users** and **Licenses**. The selected tab is underlined in blue, with its name in blue on a pale blue background. Each tab has its own web address, so you can bookmark one or send a link to it.

| Tab | What it is for |

| **Settings**                                                                          | The Space's plan and time zone — see [Space Configuration](#space-configuration) |
| [Group Details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-group-details.md) | The enrollment ID that connects handsets to the selected group |
| [Groups](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-groups.md)               | The tree of groups, and adding a group                                           |
| [Users](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-users.md) | The list of users you can see, and adding a user |
| [Licenses](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-licenses.md) | The licenses installed in the Space, adding and deleting them |

### Space Configuration

**Plan** is decided by the licenses installed in your Space, and reads **advanced** or **essentials**. **Unavailable** means no plan is recorded for your Space yet. See [Plans](/amie-advanced/introduction/plans.md) and [Licensing](/amie-advanced/planning-and-installation/licensing.md).

**Timezone** is a drop-down list of time zones, showing the time zone recorded for your Space, or your browser's own time zone if none was recorded. Hover over the **?** beside the label, or reach it with the Tab key, to show a short explanation. Choosing a different time zone here changes nothing: the console shows every date and time in your browser's time zone — see [Time and time zones](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/time-and-time-zones.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
Not yet available: changing the Space's **Timezone**. The list can be changed but the choice is not saved and nothing reads it. \[GAP-settings-2]
{% endhint %}

### Display Preferences

**Default page size** is a drop-down list offering **10**, **25**, **50** and **100**, showing **100**. Choosing a value changes nothing: each list in the console has its own **Show** control with its own default.

{% hint style="info" %}
Not yet available: **Default page size**. \[GAP-settings-3]
{% endhint %}

## Controls

| Control                                                              | What it does                                                       |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Settings**, **Group Details**, **Groups**, **Users**, **Licenses** | Opens that tab |
| **Timezone** list | Can be changed, but the choice is not saved. \[GAP-settings-2] |
| **Default page size** list | Can be changed, but the choice is not saved. \[GAP-settings-3] |
| **Cancel**                                                           | Has no effect yet. \[GAP-settings-1]                               |
| **Save Changes** | Has no effect yet. Nothing on this tab is saved. \[GAP-settings-1] |

## Icons and indicators

| Icon or indicator | Meaning | When it appears |

| Blue underline, and the name in blue on a pale blue background | The tab you are on | Always, on one tab |

| Down arrow at the right of **Timezone** and **Default page size** | Marks a drop-down list | Always |

## What to look for

* **Plan** reading **essentials** on a Space that has bought AMIE Advanced. No AMIE Advanced license is currently valid: check the **To Date** and **Status** columns on the [Licenses](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-licenses.md) tab, and add the new key if one has arrived.
* **Plan** reading **Unavailable** more than a few minutes after signing up, or after adding a license. Reload the page; if it persists, contact Spectralink — see [Getting help](/amie-advanced/introduction/getting-help.md).
* A **Timezone** that is not yours. It is the Space's recorded time zone, where one exists, not your display setting. Times in the console follow your browser, so nothing needs changing.
* **Save Changes** appearing to work. It reports nothing and saves nothing; both settings on this tab return to their previous values when you reload the page.
* A list on another screen that does not hold the number of rows set under **Default page size**. Each list has its own **Show** control, and that is the one it follows.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
