# Devices inventory

The **Inventory** tab of the Devices screen lists every device in your selected group and the groups beneath it as a table you can search, filter, sort and page through, and it is where you open a device's [Device details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details.md) page. To reach it, select **Devices** in the sidebar and then the **Inventory** tab, or select **View all** on the [Overview](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-overview.md) tab.

## Why this screen matters

The [Overview](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-overview.md) tab tells you how many devices have gone quiet or are on an old software version; the **Inventory** tab tells you which ones. Its **Last Seen**, **Model** and **Software** filters list the devices behind any check-in band, model bar or software row on the **Overview** tab, its **Location** column says where each was last connected, and selecting a row opens the device's page with everything AMIE has recorded about it. When a phone is reported missing or misbehaving, this is where you find it.

## Before you start

The list contains every device in your selected group, and every group beneath it, that has completed enrollment with AMIE — licensed or not, and whether or not it has ever checked in. The total in **Showing 1 to 25 of 30 devices** beneath the table therefore matches **Devices managed** on the **Overview** tab until you search or filter.

The tab follows the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) in the header: change the group and the list reloads for that group and its sub-groups.

## Screen layout

![The Inventory tab: thirty devices sorted by last check-in, one row selected.](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-92e55fe562c5da61eef56bf4841667cd25be91d1%2Fdevices-inventory.png?alt=media)

The heading **Devices** sits above two tabs, **Overview** and **Inventory**. Below them, a row of controls, then the table, then the paging controls.

### The controls above the table

From left to right: a search box that reads **Serial, name, model, software...** until you type, then **Filters**, **Refresh**, **Export**, **Move to Group (0)**, **Delete Selected (0)** and **+ Add device**. The numbers in parentheses are how many rows you have selected with the checkboxes. Each control is described under [Controls](#controls).

### The table

One row per device, with a checkbox in the first column and eight columns of information, described under [Columns](#columns). Select anywhere on a row except its checkbox to open that device's page. Rows are shown 25 at a time unless you change the page size.

When nothing matches, the table reads **No devices to display.** — either the selected group has no enrolled devices, or nothing matches your search and filters.

### The paging controls

Below the table, on the left: **Show** with a page-size list and **Showing 1 to 25 of 30 devices** — the rows on the current page and the total that match your search and filters. On the right: **First**, **Previous**, **Page 1 of 2**, **Next** and **Last**. With nothing to show they read **Showing 0 to 0 of 0 devices** and **Page 1 of 1**.

## Controls

| Control                                     | What it does                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| ------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Search box | Narrows the list to devices whose serial number, name, model, Spectralink software version, phone number or extension contains what you typed, ignoring case. The list refreshes a moment after you stop typing and returns to page 1. Clear the box to remove the search. The model is matched on its full reported name, so "Versity" matches every Versity device even though the **Model** column shows the number alone |
| **Filters** | Opens a box headed **Filters** with three lists and a **Reset** button, described in the next four rows. The list reloads from page 1 as soon as you choose a value. Select the button again, or anywhere outside the box, to close it; the filters stay applied |
| **Last Seen** (in Filters) | **All**, **Today**, **1-7 days**, **8-14 days**, **15-31 days** or **>31 days** — the same bands, with the same boundaries, as **Device Status** on the [Overview](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-overview.md#device-status) tab. **>31 days** includes devices that have never checked in |
| **Model** (in Filters) | **All models**, or one of the models present in the selected group. A device with no reported model is listed under **Pending** |
| **Software** (in Filters) | **All versions**, or one of the Spectralink software versions present in the selected group — the second line of the **Software** column, not the **Android** version — including **Unknown** |
| **Reset** (in Filters) | Sets the three lists back to **All**, **All models** and **All versions** and reloads the list from page 1 |
| **Refresh** | Reloads the current page of results with the same search, filters, sort and page |

### Sorting

Select a column heading to sort by that column; the list returns to page 1. The first click on a column sorts ascending (A to Z, oldest first) and the second reverses it; clicking the column the list is already sorted by reverses the direction. Devices with no value in the column — shown as **—** — are always listed last, whichever direction you choose, so a device that has never checked in is at the end of a list sorted by **Last Seen** in either direction. **Pending** under **Model** is sorted as text, so it falls after the numeric model names ascending and before them descending.

Changing the group in the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) reloads the list from page 1 and rebuilds the **Model** and **Software** filter lists for the new group. Your search text and filter choices are kept. Nothing on the tab refreshes by itself; select **Refresh** to recount.

## Columns

| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Serial** | The device's serial number; **Pending** if none is recorded. Sortable |
| **Name** | The device's name. **—** when none has been set. For a handset whose model number begins with 84, the name is always **Spectralink** followed by the serial number, whatever name was set. ## Common tasks

### Find the devices that have gone quiet

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select **Filters**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Set **Last Seen** to **15-31 days** or **>31 days**. The list reloads as soon as you choose.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select the **Last Seen** column heading once to sort the oldest check-ins to the top. Devices that have never checked in show **—** and stay at the bottom whichever way you sort; page to the end to find them. **Location** is the access point each was last connected through.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a row to open the device and check its **Last Check-in** and **Network** details on [Device details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details.md), and its recent readings on [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Open a device's page

Select anywhere on its row except the checkbox. To come back, use the browser's Back button or **Back to Devices** on the device's page — both return you to the **Inventory** tab, but your search, filters and page are not kept.

## What to look for

* A device with **—** under **Last Seen**. It has enrolled but never checked in: it has not been powered on, or cannot reach AMIE. Nothing in the console changes until the device checks in; if it should be in service, check the handset itself, then select **Refresh**.
* **Last Seen** of days or weeks on a device that should be in daily use. Select the **Last Seen** heading once to bring the oldest check-ins to the top (devices that have never checked in show **—** and stay at the bottom), and read **Location** for where it was last connected. That access point is where the device was at its last check-in, which for a device unseen for weeks may be long out of date.
* **Unlicensed** on a device in service. The device is counted and listed but holds no license. Licenses are managed under **Settings**, on the **Licenses** tab.
* Several different values in the **Software** column. Use the **Software** filter to list the devices on each older version. The filter and the sort work on the second line of the column, the Spectralink software version, not on the **Android** line above it.
* A total in **Showing 1 to 25 of 30 devices** lower than **Devices managed** on the **Overview** tab. You have a search or filter applied: the total is the number of matching devices, not the size of the group. Clear the search box and select **Reset** in **Filters** to see the whole group.
* **yesterday** under **Last Seen** on a device you expected to see today. The phrase is rounded down on your browser's clock: **yesterday** covers 24 to 47 hours ago, and from 48 hours it reads **2d ago**. The phrase is fixed when the list loads; select **Refresh** to recount. See [Time and time zones](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/time-and-time-zones.md).
* A **Last Seen** filter band whose count differs from the same band in **Device Status** on the **Overview** tab. Both are counted back from the moment each screen loaded; filter soon after reading the chart.
* Sorting seems to change which devices you see. Sorting and paging work on the whole list, not the visible page: sorting by **Serial** reorders all 30 devices and shows you the first 25.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
