# Call History

**Call History** is the third of the five sections beneath a device's details: the voice calls the device made and received over the last 90 days, ten at a time, most recent first, with a quality score for each and totals across all of them. To reach it, open a device from the Devices [Inventory](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md) tab and scroll down.

## Why this screen matters

When a user complains that calls on their phone sound bad, **Call History** says whether AMIE agrees: completed calls carry a quality score, and **Poor Quality** counts how many of the last 90 days' calls scored below 4.0. It also shows whether calls are completing at all — a call with no **End** never completed, or was never scored. Use it to decide whether the problem is this handset or the network: if this phone's calls are poor and others' are fine, look at the phone; if [Performance](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/performance.md) shows poor calls across an access point, look at the network.

## Before you start

Calls with any activity — a start, a state change or an end — in the last 90 days are listed. A call that straddles that boundary is still shown, with its **Start** as its earliest activity inside the 90 days.

The section shows calls for the device whose page you are on; the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) in the header has no effect on it.

### Heading

**Call History** with a telephone icon and a **?**.

### Totals

Five figures in a row, each with a small label beneath it. They cover every call in the 90 days, not only the ten on the current page.

| Figure | What it shows |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Total** | Calls with activity in the last 90 days |
| **Inbound** | Those calls the device received |
| **Outbound** | Those calls the device placed |
| **Poor Quality** (in red) | Calls whose quality score was below 4.0 — see the note below |
| **Avg Duration** | The average length of the calls that have a recorded duration, as minutes and seconds — **3:42**. **—** when none has |

**Poor Quality** counts every call scoring under 4.0, which includes calls the table labels **Fair** (3.0 up to 4.0) as well as those it labels **Poor** (under 3.0). The count can therefore be larger than the number of **Poor** labels you will find in the table.

Calls whose direction could not be determined count toward **Total** but toward neither **Inbound** nor **Outbound**. With no calls in the 90 days, the section reads **No call history for this device.**

### The table

| Column | What it shows |
| ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Start** | The date and time the call began, in your browser's time zone — **Sep 18, 2:47 PM**. No year is shown. For a call that began before the 90 days, the earliest activity inside them |
| **End** | The date and time the call ended. **—** for a call that never completed or was never scored |
| **Duration** | The call's length as minutes and seconds — **12:05**. **—** if the call never completed or was never scored |
| **Direction** | **← Inbound** or **→ Outbound**. **—** if the direction is not known |
| **Quality (MOS)** | The call's quality band and its average score to one decimal place — **Good (4.3)**, **Fair (3.6)** or **Poor (2.8)** — green, yellow or red. **—** for a call with no score |

**Quality (MOS)** is the call's average Mean Opinion Score, a measure of voice quality that AMIE computes from the measurements the handset reports during the call. It runs from 1 to 4.5: **Good** is 4.0 and above, **Fair** from 3.0 up to 4.0, and **Poor** below 3.0. Because the score is an average over the call, a call that was clear for nine minutes and unusable for one can still read **Good**. See [Call quality (MOS)](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/call-quality-mos.md).

### Paging

Beneath the table: **First**, **Previous**, **Page 1 of 4**, **Next**, **Last**. Ten calls per page; the page size cannot be changed.

## Controls

| Control | What it does |
| ------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **First**, **Previous**, **Next**, **Last** | Move between pages of ten. Each is grayed out when it would not move you anywhere. The totals do not change as you page |

The table cannot be sorted or searched, and there is no date range: it always shows the last 90 days, most recent first.

## Icons and indicators

| Icon or indicator | Meaning | When it appears |
| --------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | --------------- |
| Telephone icon before the heading | Marks the section | Always |
| **?** beside the heading | Hover over it for a short description of the section | Always |
| Red **Poor Quality** figure | Draws the eye; red regardless of the value, including **0** | Always |
| **←** / **→** before the direction | Inbound / Outbound | Per row |
| Green **Good**, yellow **Fair**, red **Poor** | The call's quality band | Per scored call |
| Spinning icon in place of the section | The calls have not loaded yet, or a new page is loading | While loading |

## What to look for

* **Poor Quality** at a large share of **Total**. Many of this phone's calls scored under 4.0. Open [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md) and line the **In call** bars up with **Network Connected** to see which access points the poor calls were on, then check that access point on [Performance](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/performance.md).
* Several rows with **—** in **End**, **Duration** and **Quality (MOS)**. These calls never completed, or AMIE received no measurements to score them with. They count in **Total** and, where the direction is known, in **Inbound** or **Outbound**, but not in **Avg Duration** or **Poor Quality**.
* A run of **Poor** calls at the same time of day. Something may be happening on the network at that time. [Performance](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/performance.md) shows whether other handsets saw it too.
* **Avg Duration** that looks wrong. It averages the calls with a recorded duration only, so a device with many unscored attempts and one long call shows that call's length.
* **Poor Quality** higher than the number of red **Poor** labels in the table. **Poor Quality** counts every call under 4.0, including **Fair** ones; the label reserves **Poor** for under 3.0. **Low MOS Events** on the [Call Performance Summary](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/performance/performance-call-performance.md) tab also uses the 4.0 line, but counts a score of exactly 4.0 as low.
* **Start** times that differ from a colleague's. They are shown in each person's browser time zone — see [Time and time zones](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/time-and-time-zones.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-call-history.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
