# Device details

The device page is the page for one handset: what it is, when it was last heard from, what network it is on and which battery it holds, and — in five sections beneath the details — what it has been doing. To reach it, select a row on the Devices [Inventory](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md) tab. The page address carries the device's serial number, so you can bookmark it or send the link to a colleague.

The details at the top of the page are described here. Each of the five sections beneath them has its own page:

* [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md) — a timeline of what the device, its battery and its network did over its last seven days
* [Top App Consumption](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-top-app-consumption.md) — which apps drew the most battery
* [Call History](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-call-history.md) — recent calls and their quality
* [Daily Usage Statistics](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-daily-usage.md) — when the device was in service each day
* [Log Bundles](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-log-bundles.md) — diagnostic files collected from the device

## Why this screen matters

When one phone is the problem — it is missing, its battery does not last, calls on it sound bad, or a user says it misbehaved — this page is where the answer is. The top of the page says when it was last heard from and where ([Last Seen](#last-seen-battery-and-software), [Network](#details)), how charged its battery was (the [Battery](#last-seen-battery-and-software) label), and what software it runs. The five sections beneath the details say what it was doing, hour by hour and call by call. This is also where you write a note about a device or send a message to its screen.

## Before you start

You can open any device in the groups you can see. A link to a device outside them, or to a serial number that does not exist, reads **Device not found.** — see [Which groups you can see](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#which-groups-you-can-see).

The page does not follow the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) in the header: it shows one device, whichever group is selected.

Grayed out? **Send Message**, **Edit** under **Notes**, and **Request Log Bundle** and **Delete Selected** under **Log Bundles** depend on your role. Ask your AMIE administrator — see [Roles and permissions](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/roles-and-permissions.md).

## Screen layout

![The top of a device's page: last seen, battery and software, identity, notes, and its network, telephony, system and battery details.](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-8a2c0e5a8123e1068b6749496d1f8e4e76fc117d%2Fdevice-details.png?alt=media)

### Heading and actions

The heading reads **Device 1A2B3C4D Details**, where the middle part is the serial number. To its right are **Send Message** and **Back to Devices**, a link back to the **Inventory** tab.

### Last Seen, Battery and Software

Three colored labels across the top of the page.

**Last Seen:** followed by the date and time of the device's last check-in, in your browser's time zone — for example **September 21, 2026, 9:14 AM**. The label is green when that was within the last 24 hours, yellow when it was 24 hours or more but under 7 days ago, and red when it was 7 days or more ago or the device has never checked in, in which case the time reads **—**.

**Battery** followed by **Good**, **Low**, **Critical** or **Unknown**. This is the battery's current charge, not its health: **Good** (green) is a charge of 50% or more, **Low** (yellow) is 20% up to, but not including, 50%, **Critical** (red) is under 20%, and **Unknown** (gray) means the device has not reported a charge level. A worn-out battery that happens to be fully charged reads **Good** here; its health is on [Battery details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/battery-details.md).

**Software v** followed by the Spectralink software version the device last reported — for example **Software v2.4.1** — or **Software vUnknown** if it has never reported one. The label is always gray.

### Name, model and serial

A generic handset illustration — the same picture for every device, not a likeness of the model — beside three lines. The first is the device's name, or **—** if none is set; for a handset whose model number begins with 84 it is always **Spectralink** followed by the serial number, whatever name was set. The second is its model, for example **9740**, or **Pending** when none is recorded. The third is its serial number. The name cannot be changed on this page.

{% hint style="warning" %}
TODO: where a device's name and tags are set. Nothing in this console sets them.
{% endhint %}

### Device Info

**Device Info** lists the device's tags — short labels attached to the device. It appears only when the device has at least one tag; a device with no tags has no **Device Info** line. Tags cannot be added or changed in this console.

### Notes

**Notes** is a free-text note about the device, up to 400 characters, with an **Edit** button. With no note it reads **No notes yet.** Notes are visible to everyone who can open the device. To write one, see [Add or change a note](#add-or-change-a-note).

### Details

Four columns of labeled values: **Network**, **Telephony**, **System** and **Battery**. Every value is from the device's most recent check-in, so for a device unseen for weeks they describe where and how it was then.

| Heading       | Value             | What it shows                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            |
| ------------- | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Network** | **IP** | The device's IP address at its last check-in. **—** if none was reported |
| | **SSID** | The name of the Wi-Fi network the device was last connected to. **—** if none |
| | **MAC** | The first of the hardware addresses recorded for the device. A handset has more than one — Wi-Fi among them — and the screen does not say which adapter this one belongs to. **—** if none |
| | **Last AP** | The hardware address (BSSID) of the access point the device was last connected through. **—** if none. The **Location** column on the [Inventory](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md) tab shows this same access point by name where one is recorded |
| **Telephony** | **Extension**     | The device's SIP extension. **—** if none                                                                                                                                                                                                                                |
|               | **Phone**         | The device's phone number. **—** if none                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| **System** | **OS** | **Android** followed by the operating system version the device reported — for example **Android 13** — or **Unknown** on its own when none was reported |
| | **Software** | The Spectralink software version — the same value as the **Software** label at the top. **Unknown** if none |
| | **Storage** | How much of the device's storage is in use, as a percentage to two decimal places. A device that has not reported storage figures reads **0.00%**, so **0.00%** usually means "not reported", not an empty device |
| | **Last Check-in** | The date and time of the device's last check-in — the same moment as **Last Seen** at the top |
| **Battery** | **Charge** | A small bar filled to the battery's charge level and colored like the **Battery** label at the top, followed by the charge as a whole-number percentage. **—** and an empty bar if none was reported |
| | **Temp** | The battery's temperature at its last report, rounded to a whole number of °C. **—** if none |
| | **Serial** | The serial number of the battery most recently reported by this device, as a link to its [Battery details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/battery-details.md) page. **—** if the device has never reported a battery |

The three **Battery** values come from the most recent battery report this device has made, which may be earlier than its last check-in.

## Common tasks

### Send a message to the device

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select **Send Message**. The **Send Message to Device** dialog opens.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Type into **Message**, which reads **Enter your message here...** until you type, up to 400 characters. The counter beneath reads **N / 400 characters** and turns amber past 360. **Send** stays grayed out until you have typed something other than spaces.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Send**. The dialog closes and a brief message reads **Message sent.** AMIE holds the message for the device for up to seven days and shows it on the device's screen, under the title **New Message**, when the device next connects. **Cancel**, the **×**, the Escape key, or a click outside the dialog closes it and clears what you typed.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

If the message cannot be sent, the reason appears in red inside the dialog and your text is kept. **This device isn't currently reachable for messaging.** means the device is not set up to receive messages from AMIE and cannot be messaged until it is.

{% hint style="warning" %}
TODO: what sets a device up to receive messages and log-collection requests from AMIE, and whether an administrator can do anything about a device that reads as not reachable.
{% endhint %}

### Add or change a note

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select **Edit** under **Notes**. The current note appears in a text box, which reads **Add notes about this device…** while empty, with a counter beneath reading **N/400**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Type or change the note, up to 400 characters. To remove a note, delete all the text.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Save**. The note is shown in place of the text box and a brief message reads **Notes updated.** If it could not be saved, a brief red message says so and the text box stays open with your text. Select **Cancel** instead to discard your changes.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What to look for

* A red **Last Seen**. The device has not checked in for a week or more, or never has. **Last AP** under **Network** is where it was last connected; **Location** on the [Inventory](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md) tab shows the same access point by name. Open [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md) to see what it was doing in its last week.
* **Good** under **Battery** on a phone that does not last a shift. Charge is not health. Follow the **Serial** link under **Battery** to [Battery details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/battery-details.md) and read its **Health**; a battery at 100% charge and 55% health reads **Good** here and **Replace** there.
* **Critical** under **Battery** on a device with a green **Last Seen**. The phone has checked in within 24 hours and its battery is under 20%. Its [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md) **Charging** row shows whether it is being charged between shifts.
* A **Software** version different from the rest of the fleet. The device may be on an older release than the others; compare with **Software Versions** on the [Devices overview](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-overview.md) tab.
* **Temp** well above other devices' **Temp** values. Check where the device sits when charging; the **Temperature** row on [Session Activity](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details/device-session-activity.md) shows when it ran hot.
* **Last Seen** and **Last Check-in** that seem to disagree with **Charge** or **Temp**. The battery values come from the battery's own most recent report, which can be earlier than the device's check-in.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
