# Batteries inventory

The **Inventory** tab of the Batteries screen lists every battery in the groups you can see, one per row, and is where you open a battery's [Battery details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/battery-details.md) page. Each row gives the battery's health, cycles, charge, the handset it was last in, and where that handset is now. Selecting **Batteries** in the sidebar opens this tab; the **Overview** tab beside it holds the fleet-wide summary.

## Why this screen matters

The [Overview](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/batteries-overview.md) tab says how many batteries need replacing or have stopped reporting; the **Inventory** tab says which ones. Sort by **Health**, lowest first (two clicks), then read **Last Device** for the handset each was last in and **Location (Last AP)** for where that handset is now, and take the battery out of circulation. A worn battery does not fix itself: it goes back into the charger and circulates until someone removes it, and this list is how you find it.

## Before you start

The list contains every battery AMIE knows about in the groups you can see. A battery stays in the list after it stops reporting.

The tab does not follow the [group selector](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) in the header: whatever group is selected, it lists every battery you can see.

The list shows at most 50 batteries and has no paging controls. In a fleet with more than 50, sort or search to bring the ones you want into the first 50.

{% hint style="info" %}
Not yet available: paging beyond the first 50 batteries. \[GAP-batteries-5]

## Screen layout

![The Inventory tab: batteries sorted by last report, every one in the Good band.](https://3032864282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxfLF6IpyutR429bMnvvf%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-34fd1e3d20ef37a0ae1e44541f160a37251ddb5c%2Fbatteries-inventory.png?alt=media)

The heading **Battery Lifecycle Intelligence** sits above two tabs, **Overview** and **Inventory**. Below them is a row of controls aligned to the right, then the table.

### The controls above the table

Above the table sit a search box that reads **Serial, device, user, location...** until you type, then **Filters**, **Refresh** and **Export**. Each is described under [Controls](#controls).

### The table

The table has one row per battery, a checkbox in the first column and nine columns, described under [Columns](#columns). Select anywhere on a row except its checkbox or its **Tags** cell to open that battery's page; selecting the **Tags** cell does nothing. The list opens sorted by **Last Seen**, most recent first, with any batteries that have no recorded report time listed before them.

With nothing to list the table reads **No batteries to display.** — AMIE knows of no battery in the groups you can see, or none matches your search.

| **+ Add Tag** (in a row)                                                    | Not yet available. \[GAP-batteries-4]                                                                                                                                                                   |

Search matching is case-sensitive, and two characters act as wildcards: `%` stands for any run of characters and `_` for any single character.

### Sorting

Selecting a heading the list is not already sorted by sorts descending — highest, alphabetically last, or most recent first; selecting the heading it is already sorted by reverses the direction, and each further click reverses it again. **Health** sorts by the percentage, not the band name. Batteries with no value in the column are listed first when descending and last when ascending, so the first click on **Health** brings any **Unknown** batteries to the top, and the second click brings the lowest percentages to the top. Because the list opens sorted by **Last Seen**, the first click on that heading sorts ascending — oldest first, with never-reported batteries at the end. Under **Cycles**, batteries with no recorded count show **0** yet sort as if the column were empty — first when descending, last when ascending — not among the true zeros.

Nothing on the tab refreshes by itself; select **Refresh** to reload the list.

## Columns

**Health** shows remaining capacity: how much charge a battery can now hold when full, as a percentage of what it held when new. **Good** is 80% or more, **Warning** 65% to 79%, **Replace** under 65%; a battery with no capacity reading is **Unknown**. The band is decided on the exact figure and the percentage is shown rounded, so a battery just under a boundary can read, for example, **Warning (80%)**. See [Battery Health Distribution](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/battery-health-distribution.md).

| **Health** | The battery's health band and remaining capacity — **Good (99%)**, **Warning (72%)**, **Replace (41%)**, or **Unknown (—)** in gray when there is no capacity reading. The bands are defined above the table. Sortable, by the percentage |
| **Cycles** | The number of complete charge-and-discharge cycles recorded for the battery, colored to match the row's **Health** band (gray for **Unknown**). **0** if none has been recorded. | **Charge** | The battery's charge at its last report, as a whole-number percentage, with, beneath it in smaller text, whether it was charging at the time — for example **Charging**, **Discharging** or **Fully charged**. **—** if no charge was reported. Sortable |
| **Last Device** | The serial number of the handset the battery was last in. **—** if unknown. Not sortable |
| **Last Seen** | How long ago the battery was last reported, as a short phrase on your browser's clock — **now** for under a minute, then **13m ago**, **5h ago**, **yesterday**, **2d ago** and so on, rounded down. **—** if it has no recorded report time. Sortable; the list opens sorted by this column |
| **Location (Last AP)** | The wireless access point that the battery's last handset most recently connected to, as AMIE currently has it: the name shown for it on [Access Points](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/access-points.md) or, where it has no name, its hardware address (BSSID). **—** if none. Not sortable |
| **Group** | Always **—**. Hovering shows **Coming soon**. Not yet available. \[GAP-batteries-3] |
| **Tags** | The tags — short labels, shown under **Device Info** on [Device details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/device-details.md) — currently on the handset the battery was last in. A battery whose handset has no tags, or that has no handset, shows a grayed **+ Add Tag** button instead. Not sortable |

**Health**, **Cycles**, **Charge** and **Last Device** normally describe the battery as of its last report, the time shown under **Last Seen**. **Location (Last AP)** and **Tags** are the last handset's current access point and tags, which can be more recent than the battery's last report — and change if the handset moves on without the battery.

## Common tasks

### Find the batteries to replace

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select the **Health** column heading twice. The first click sorts by remaining capacity with any **Unknown** batteries first, then the healthiest; the second brings the lowest capacity to the top. When the sort is right, the arrow beside **Health** points up and the lowest percentages are in the first rows; if the arrow points down, select the heading once more.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On each **Replace** row, read **Last Device** for the handset the battery was last in and **Location (Last AP)** for where that handset is now. A **Last Seen** within the last day means the battery is still in a handset that is reporting.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a **Replace** row to open its [Battery details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/battery-details.md) page for its full-charge capacity in mAh and its charge history over the last day.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What to look for

* **Replace** in the **Health** column. The battery holds under 65% of what it held when new and may not last a shift. **Last Device** is the handset it was last in and **Location (Last AP)** is where that handset is now; take the battery out of circulation.
* **Replace (55%)** and **100%** charge on the same row. Health is not charge: **Health** is how much the battery can hold when full, compared with new; **Charge** is how full it was at its last report. A fully charged worn battery still needs replacing.
* A red **Cycles** figure. The color is the row's health band, not a judgment of the count. Read the **Health** column for what it means.
* **Last Seen** of a week or more. **Last Device** is the handset the battery was last in; open that handset from the Devices [Inventory](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/devices-inventory.md) and check its **Last Seen**. If the handset is reporting and the battery is not, the battery has probably been swapped out — look in chargers and drawers.
* A battery you expect to see that is not listed. The list shows only the first 50 in the current sort, with no indication of how many were left out. Search for its serial number, or sort so that it falls within the first 50.
* **yesterday** under **Last Seen** on a battery that last reported the day before yesterday. The phrase counts whole 24-hour periods on your browser's clock from the moment the list loaded, so **yesterday** covers 24 to 47 hours ago and a late report from two calendar days ago still reads **yesterday**. The phrases do not change while the tab is open; select **Refresh** to reload. See [Time and time zones](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/time-and-time-zones.md).
* **Location (Last AP)** that changes without the battery reporting. The column follows the last handset's current access point, not the battery. If the handset has moved on with a different battery, the location is the handset's, not this battery's.
* A search that finds nothing for a serial number you know. Matching is case-sensitive and only the serial number is searched, whatever the search box says.

GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/batteries-inventory.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```
`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
