# Glossary

Terms used across this guide and on the console's screens, in alphabetical order. Where a term has a fuller page, the entry links to it.

| Term                                         | Meaning                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
| -------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Access point** | A Wi-Fi radio that handsets connect through. The console identifies one by its BSSID and, where you have recorded it, by a name and a [site](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/sites.md). See [Access Points](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/access-points.md) |
| **Admin**, **Owner**, **User**, **Viewer** | The four roles a user can hold. A role decides what the user can do; the user's group decides what they can see. See [Roles and permissions](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/roles-and-permissions.md) |
| **Alert** | A condition AMIE has noticed and raised for attention, such as a battery that needs replacing. See [Alerts](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/alerts.md) |
| **AMIE Agent** | The Spectralink app on each Versity handset that reports to AMIE. It is configured with a group's enrollment ID. See [Architecture](/amie-advanced/planning-and-installation/architecture.md) |
| **AMIE Essentials**, **AMIE Advanced** | The two forms of AMIE. Essentials covers battery management and app configuration; Advanced adds device management and analytics. See [Plans](/amie-advanced/introduction/plans.md) |
| **Band** | A range a value is sorted into and given a name and color — for example **Good**, **Warning** and **Replace** for battery health |
| **BSSID** | Basic service set identifier: the hardware address of one access point radio, written as six pairs of characters such as `e0:46:ee:06:cf:c8`. It identifies the access point when no name has been given |
| **Call segment** | A stretch of a call spent connected to one access point. Call quality and packet loss are measured over segments. See [Packet loss](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/packet-loss.md) |
| **Capacity** | How much charge a battery can hold when full, as a share of what it held when new. The figure behind battery **Health**. See [Battery capacity](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/battery-capacity.md) |
| **Charge** | How full a battery is right now, as a percentage. Not the same as capacity |
| **Check-in** | A report from a handset to AMIE. **Last Seen** and **Last Check-in** show when the most recent one arrived |
| **Cycle** | On battery screens: one full battery's worth of discharge, however it is split up — see [Cycle count](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/cycle-count.md). Under **Top App Consumption**: one unbroken stretch of handset activity — see [App battery consumption](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/app-battery-consumption.md) |
| **dBm** | Decibels relative to one milliwatt: the unit of Wi-Fi signal strength, written as a negative number where a more negative value is weaker. See [Signal strength (RSSI)](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/signal-strength-rssi.md) |
| **Dropped packet**, **missed packet** | A voice packet that arrived too late to be played, or that never arrived. See [Packet loss](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/packet-loss.md) |
| **Enrollment**, **enrollment ID** | How a handset joins your Space. A group can have an enrollment ID while enrollment is running for it; a handset configured with that ID joins the group. See [Group Details](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-group-details.md) |
| **Fuel gauge** | The circuit inside a Spectralink battery that measures its charge, capacity and cycle count. See [Battery capacity](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/battery-capacity.md) |
| **Group** | A named part of your Space that holds handsets and users. Groups nest in a tree; a user sees their own group and everything beneath it. See [How your Space is organized](/amie-advanced/introduction/how-your-space-is-organized.md) |
| **Group selector** | The control in the console header that narrows most screens to one group and its subgroups. See [The console](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/the-console.md#the-group-selector) |
| **Handoff** | A handset moving its connection from one access point to another during a call. A long one is heard as a gap. See [Long Handoff Summary](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/performance/performance-long-handoff.md) |
| **Health** | A battery's capacity band: **Good**, **Warning**, **Replace** or **Unknown**. Installed from a license key on the [Licenses](/amie-advanced/using-the-platform/settings/settings-licenses.md) tab. See [Licensing](/amie-advanced/planning-and-installation/licensing.md) |

| **RSSI** | Received signal strength indicator: the handset's reading of how strong the Wi-Fi signal is. See [Signal strength (RSSI)](/amie-advanced/metrics-reference/signal-strength-rssi.md) |

The previous console called this an account — see [Moving from the previous console](/amie-advanced/planning-and-installation/existing-customers.md). See also [How your Space is organized](/amie-advanced/introduction/how-your-space-is-organized.md) |
| **Spectralink Application Management (SAM)** | Spectralink's software for configuring the applications on Versity handsets. ## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.spectralink.net/amie-advanced/appendix/glossary.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
